Originally hailing from the Carolina low country, Heath Nettles is an integrated marketing communications and digital professional residing in the Paris of the South (Asheville, N.C.).
Employed with a four-time Top 15 health system (2012-15) and the Western North Carolina’s level II trauma and tertiary care center, Nettles is the director of digital and social media in the Marketing & Communications division of Mission Health.
During his tenure, the team has been named to several prestigious lists, including the Internet’s Top 50 Health Education Blogs (#14) the Internet's Top 100 Health & wellness Blogs (#25), the Top 100 hospitals in social media (#23), the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals and and #5 Super Hospital in IT. Other recognitions included awards from the regional division of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD), recognizing Mission Health for its consumer and team members publications, mixed media campaigns, interactive websites, marketing on a shoe string budget, social media, mobile applications and internal communications.
Nettles specializes in online and digital communication, including social media and content marketing. His past experiences include event planning and management, higher education administration, recruitment and program management.
When not at Mission, Nettles is an adjunct assistant professor of management and accountancy at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. His teaching experiences have included introduction to business, principles of management, organizational behavior and theory as well as strategic management, the program's capstone seminar. He currently serves on the Carolina Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing Society's board of directors and volunteers with several social enterprises and parishes on business, marketing and communications strategies in addition to maintaining their websites.
Growing up, my father always told me we weren't wealthy when it came to many things -- but few things were as valuable as a man's name and word. I will forever endeavor to "never lose a good name" and "my word."

A graduate of the School of Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Heath received his master of business administration from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. He also holds an Advanced Public Information Officer Certificate in Health and Hospital Emergencies from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. More recently, Nettles was pursuing studies in Advanced Project Management at Stanford University in California.
