About Heath

Originally hailing from the Carolina low country, Heath Nettles is an integrated marketing communications and digital media professional who currently serves as the senior director of marketing & communications for The Recycling Partnership, a national nonprofit, solving for circularity by mobilizing the people, data and solutions across the value chain to unlock the environmental and economic benefits of recycling and a circular economy. At The Partnership, he is responsible for all owned, paid, earned and shared channels, storytelling and community-based strategies that help residents recycle more, better.

Prior to joining The Partnership, Heath served as director of digital and social media at Asheville-based Mission Health. There, he had responsibility for leading the planning, execution and evaluation of all digital, social media and web initiatives across the $1.9 billion integrated health system with 10 hospitals and post-acute care facilities, numerous ambulatory clinics, an employed care team of over 800 providers and one of the largest accountable care organizations (ACOs) in the nation.

During his eight-year tenure at the six-time Top 15 Health System, the team has been named to several prestigious lists, including the Internet’s Top 50 Health Education Blogs (#14) the Internet's Top 100 Health & wellness Blogs (#25), the Top 100 hospitals in social media (#23), the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals and #5 Super Hospital in IT. Other recognitions included Best Website and Digital Campaign by Healthcare Marketing National as well as awards from the regional division of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD), recognizing Mission Health for its consumer and team member publications, mixed media campaigns, interactive websites, marketing on a shoe string budget, social media, mobile applications and internal communications.

When not at The Partnership, Nettles is an adjunct assistant professor of management and accountancy at the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a member of the graduate school faculty in the School of Health Sciences, part of the College of Health and Human Sciences at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. His teaching experiences have included undergraduate and graduate-level courses in digital and social media, marketing, introduction to business, principles of management, organizational behavior and theory as well as strategic management, a program's capstone seminar. He recently served on the Carolina Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing Society's board of directors and as lay leader at Mars Hill United Methodist Church. He volunteers with the local United Way, Reconciling Ministries, the Madison County Racial Justice Coalition and several social enterprises, consulting on business development, marketing and communications strategies.
